Highlands Links

Ingonish, Nova Scotia

~$60 - $85

This is one of the best courses in Canada and my personal favourite.  Ranked #1 in Canada by Scoregolf Magazine in 2000, this Stanley Thompson designed course offers a spectacular layout mixed with panoramic views of Highlands National Park and the Atlantic Ocean.

1

Links at Crowbush Cove

Morell, PEI

~$75-$95

Probably the most spectacular course in PEI, the Links at Crowbush Cove offers a tough layout mixed with the beauty of PEI's north shore.  Be prepared to carry over water hazards in tricky wind conditions.

2

Glen Arbour

Hammond's Plains, Nova Scotia

~$100 - $150

One of the best maintained courses in Nova Scotia, this gem is my favourite in the Halifax Region.  Though pricier than most courses in Nova Scotia, it compares well with courses charging twice the green fees in Ontario or Western Canada.

3

Fairmont Algonquin

St. Andrew's by-the-Sea, New Brunswick

~$49 - $99

There is something timeless about this course. Taking full advantage of the local scenery, this is still one of my favourite courses in New Brunswick.

4

Brudenell River / Dundarave

Brudenell, PEI

~$55 - $85

Part of the Rodd Resort collection, these two adjacent courses showcase why PEI is one of the top golf destinations in Canada. The home course of LPGA champion Lorie Kane, both tracks offer unique challenges and will leave you feeling it can't get much better.

5

Fox Harb'r

Wallace, Nova Scotia

~$200 + stay

The most expensive course in the Maritimes and probably the most exclusive. This beautiful Graham Cooke designed course offers a truly wonderful golf experience for those who don't mind the hefty price tag. The holes along the Northumberland Strait shore are quite spectacular.

6

Bell Bay

Baddeck, Nova Scotia

~$79

Rated the best new course in Canada in 1998, this course is part of Cape Breton's "Fab Foursome".  The par 3, 17th hole is very memorable as is the amazing view from the elevated 18th tee.

7

Kingswood

Fredericton, New Brunswick

~$40-$75

If you like wide-open links style courses with plenty of ponds, traps, and fescue to keep you honest, then you'll love this wonderful course in Fredericton.  The waterfall over the quarry wall on #14 creates a memorable signature hole.

8

Royal Oaks

Moncton, New Brunswick

~$45-$65

I played this course with my brother, Mike, in the pouring rain and still had a wonderful day. The staff were excellent and the course offers it's own unique challenges. Very well maintained.

9

Fox Meadow

Charlottetown, PEI

~$40-$65

Though the course is very nice, once again, the professional and friendly staff made the round exceptional. The course is relatively new, suberbly maintained and quite affordable.  You won't be disappointed.

10

Fox Creek

Dieppe, New Brunswick

~$65

A new course to the Moncton area, this is a hidden gem that won't be hidden for long.  Great club house, great layout andGPS on the carts made for a memorable round and a pleasant day.

11

The Pines Resort

Digby, Nova Scotia

~$60-$70

My good friend Jeff and I first played this course as part of our Maritimes golf trip several years ago. The 90 yard par 3 hole, into a gorge, will stay in my memory forever.  A truly exceptional course and the best course in Western Nova Scotia.

12

Abercrombie

Abercrombie, Nova Scotia

~$48

The oldest course in Nova Scotia located in the heart of Pictou County, Birthplace of New Scotland, I have played this course more than any in the Maritimes.  A tough course with a few hidden surprises it is a joy to walk, especially in the fall when the leaves have all turned.

13

Northumberland Links Golf and Country Club

Pugwash, Nova Scotia

~$50

Not far from Fox Harb'r, the Northumberland Links offers an affordable alternative while still maximizing on the stunning views of the Northumberland Straits.  Friendly staff and an enjoyable layout.

14

Dundee Golf & Country Club

Cleveland, Nova Scotia

~$37-$54

Part of the Fab Foursome in Cape Breton, the Dundee Resort offers spectacular views of the Bras d'Or Lakes mixed with an enjoyable course.

15

Mill River

Mill River, PEI

~$45 - $60

The fourth course in the Rodd Resort collection is certainly no slouch to it's eastern cousins.  Mill River offers a beautiful course and first class facilities.  Well worth the drive to this end of PEI!

16

Le Portage

Cheticamp, Nova Scotia

~$46 - $50

Also part of the Fab Foursome in Cape Breton, Le Portage offers a long challenging course nestled on the western shores of the Cabot Trail.  The wind can quickly change this course making every round unique.

17

Andersons Creek

Cavendish, PEI

~$55-$75

A newer course recently added to PEI, Andersons Creek is a very pretty course located in Cavendish, the home of Anne of Green Gables and the heart of PEI tourism. Full value for a Grahame Cooke designed course.

18

Ashburn Golf & Country Club

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Members

A private club in Halifax with two courses (appropriately called Old Ashburn and New Ashburn) these courses offer a true challenge to the golf enthusiast. The New Ashburn course, in particular, is a long tight course cut through the trees and lakes that are typical of Nova Scotia's rugged terrain.

19

Granite Springs

Bayside, Nova Scotia

~$40 - 51

Granite Springs is my nemesis.  First class facilities host a tricky course that requires smart club selection rather than brute strength.  The 10th hole par 4 is especially pretty, but leave your woods in the bag. Trust me. A long iron and a shorter iron are a much smarter way to play this hole.  Enjoy.
