The Ship Hector Foundation "Hector Fall Classic" Golf Tournament will be held at Abercrombie Golf Course on September 11th, 2009. There will be a reception at the deCoste on the evening of Thursday, Sepember 10th. This is a new event this year and, as such, details will be announced later in the year.

In the early summer of 1773, approximately two hundred Highland Scots boarded the Hector in search of a better life in the New World. These courageous pioneers established the first effective Scottish settlement in Nova Scotia. In recognition of the Hector's role in making Pictou the Birthplace of New Scotland, the New Scotland Days Living Heritage Festival is a community celebration of the pioneer spirit that shaped Pictou County and Nova Scotia. During the festival, special events are scheduled at the award winning Hector Heritage Quay and throughout the community. You can enjoy musical performances, participate in demonstrations on board the replica Ship Hector, meet re-enactors, and much, much more.

#117 The 30th Annual Oktoberfest in Tatamagouche

The last weekend in September brings over 3,000 partygoers to Tatamagouche, to attend the Annual North Shore Bavarian Society Oktoberfest. The event includes a Dance on Friday evening, Beer Gardens on Saturday afternoon plus a Dance on Saturday evening. The concession booths range from German sausages and cuisine to delicate cheesecakes and souvenirs. Many beverages are available from Domestic and German beers to local wines and imported spirits, and the infamous Schnapps Bar. Soft drinks and coffee are also available. #118 Launch Day in Maitland

The community of Maitland, Hants County, invites you to celebrate it's ship building heritage at the 23rd Annual Maitland Launch Day Festival. During the Golden Age of Sale, launch days were big events, often bringing hundreds of people to celebrate and watch. More than 100 vessels were launched in the Maitland area, and ship building employed a thousand paid workers in the village alone! Held in late September

Villagers will be dressed in their Victorian best, and displays and demonstrations of traditional ship building skills and crafts will take place on the Lawrence House Museum grounds. Festival highlights include an old fashioned, non-motorized parade, the 5th Annual Champion Whiskey Barrel Race and a re-enactment of the original launch of the W.D. Lawrence.
